Background: New arrival, a cassowary from New Guinea, and newly-born animals baby sea lion and tiger cubs,-were filmed June 24 by VISNEWS at Regents Park Zoo, London, and Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable. At Regents park, 'Peter', the Californian sea lion pup, born just over three weeks ago made his first public appearance.

Head keeper John Cotterill took 'Peter' down to the Sea Lions' Pond for his first swim - but 'Tiny', 'Peter's' mother had to use some persuasion before her youngster would take the plunge.

Young 'Friday', the Zoo's three-month-old two foot tall cassowary, who arrived by air from Singapore two weeks ago, is shown in his new home in the Ostrich House. 'Friday', born in New Guinea, is an excitable bird - and shows a strange fascination for the legs of passing visitors. High fencing and sacking has been erected to prevent him from exhausting himself in a made chase after people's legs.

Film of the new air-conditioned quarters for the London Zoo's GBP12,000 giant Panda, 'Chi-Chi'.... but of 'Chi-Chi' herself, she was resting and could not be disturbed. The new home has a garden, swing and pool.

At Whipsnade VISNEWS cameras took first pictures of the two new tiger cubs born ten days ago. Their mother 'Ranee' and father 'Sultan', were presented to the Zoo in 1956 by the Sultan of Johore and they are the first cubs born at Whipsnade since the end of the late war.

The cubs had opened their eyes for the first time the day before and cannot yet walk.

While father and mother enjoy feeding time, the tiny lions bask in the sun in their open enclosure.
