Background: Kileaua volcano, Hawaii, erupted for the second time in two weeks, Nov 26, with its main lava fountain spurting up to 300 feet.

Lava burst from the same opening in the crater wall as on Nov 12, when Kileaua resumed its activity for the first time since 1955, gushing molten rock for seven days.

High winds were blowing at the time of the second eruption, and rangers closed the western approach to Crater Rim Road where fumes and smoke made driving dangerous. Kileaua is locally known as the Drive-in Crater, because normally tourists can take their cars right up to the rim.

Although the renewed flow is described as heavy, the eruption is not expected to cause much damage since a large pit catching the lava will take a long time to fill up.
