Background: The new British High Commissioner in India, Sir Paul Gore-Booth, presents his letters of Commission to the Indian President Dr. Rajendra Prasad at a very colourful ceremony held at the President's House in New Delhi, November 5.
Sir Paul arrived at the Presidential Palace accompanied by the Indian Chief of Protocol and escorted by the mounted Body Guard of the President. At the entrance to the House, he was received by the President's Military Secretary and introduced to other aides.
Sir Paul proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour presented by President's Body Guard. The inspection over, buglers sounded the entrance of the High Commissioner to the President's House.
President Prasad arrived at the 'Durbar Hall' and received the British High Commissioner and members of his staff. Sir Paul in a short speech outlined the great friendship and affection which the British people and Government have for India.
On receiving the letters of Commission, Dr Prasad reciprocated the feelings and thanked Britain for her continued assistance and aid to India in various fields. The Indian President and the British High Commissioner accompanied by their officials, after introductions, proceeded for the traditional group photograph.
