Background: A 38-year-old housewife, Mrs. Margaret howcroft of St. Helen's Road, Leigh, Lancashire, opened her front door to a surprise visitor August 5 --- and found she had won a new GBP6,766, 100 m.p.h. Rolls-Royce for only 3s in a national newspaper competition.

Unable to believe that the elegant 17-ft streamlined Silver Cloud was hers - Mrs. Howcroft exclaimed: "Marvellous ... but surely it can't be mine."
She was reassured that her entry in a Daily Mail competition had earned her the fully-taxed insured Rolls - and a cheque to cover running expenses for a year. The paper's Manchester news editor, Adrian Clancy, presented the car to Mrs. Howcroft, who took no time in making a test spin in the luxurious Rolls.

Wife of a florist, and mother of a two-year-old son, Mrs. Howcroft passed her driving test only 18 months ago.

The Rolls presents one problem however, to the Howcroft family --- garage accommodation. Her husband already owns a Ford Consul and until the garage has been extended the Rolls will be parked in the drive of their semi-detached home.

Six weeks ago, Mrs. Howcroft saw the Daily Mail headline .... "Your Rolls is waiting ...". She entered the competition, she says, "Just for a lark".

Competitors were asked to decide which six out of 12 motoring cartoons were the most amusing.
