Speers being assisted onto stretcher, on deck of ship. SV Captain Downing shaking hands with Speers. CU Speers on stretcher being carried off ship.

    CU Captain William Downing Speaks:-"When the lifeboat returned to the ship Mr. Fielding had one survivor on board, his name was Speers, this man was in an exhausted condition, and when I spoke to him he told me he left the plane shortly after hitting the water & he'd been in a dinghy for 10 hours, until a lifeboat was dropped by one of the Aircraft searching around & it was one hour before he was picked up by us. I was very pleased to be able to say That at least we saved one."
