Background: Brazilian diplomat Senhor Aloysio Gomide is reunited with his family after spending 205 days as hostage in the hands of Uruguayan Tupamaros guerrillas. He was released in Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital, after his wife paid a large ransom to the guerrillas for his release. This production shows Senhor Gomide on Monday (Feb 22) on the car journey to Montevideo airport to catch a private flight back to Brazil with his wife.

SYNOPSIS: Brazilian diplomat Senhor Aloysio Gomide, father of six children, was freed by Uruguayan Tupamaros Guerrillas on Sunday (February 21) after being held hostage for 205 days. The 42-year-old consul was released after his wife paid the guerrillas a large sum of ransom money.

His captors let him go in a fashionable riverside avenue in Montevideo and then telephoned his wife to tell her. Senhor Gomide is back in Brazil with his family after flying almost immediately after his release. Crowds cheered him and his wife before the flight back to Rio de Janeiro in a private jet aircraft.

When released, Senhor Gomide appeared tired but in good health. It is not yet known where he was held prisoner.
