Background: During a lull in the political negotiations concerning the future of Cyprus there is no let up in the demonstrations, outrages and subversive activity in the island itself. Nevertheless, Governor, Sir Hugh Foot, who may fly to London within a few days for consultations, continues his diplomatic visits to various parts of the island. The Governor landed at Lefka village (near Xeros) by helicopter to visit the Cyprus Mines Corporation. He was welcomed by a number of Turkish officials and a young girl offered him a nosegay. The Governor discussed various topics with local Turkish leaders. He then visited various parts of the plant and installations and discussed conditions of employment with the staff.
