Background: Foreign Minister, Joseph Potolot, of the Central African Republic, arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday (7 March) for the start of a six-day visit. The Foreign Minister was there at the invitation of the Taiwan authorities, and was accompanied by his wife and Ambassador Agloire Bomba.
Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shen Charg-huan, was at the airport in Taipei to greet the African party, and they were accorded full military honours.
Later Mr. Potolot laid a wreath at the Yuanshan memorial to fallen war heroes.
Mr. Potolot also met Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's immediate deputy C.K. Yen and was scheduled to meet other officials later.
SYNOPSIS: Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shen Chang-huan, gave a warm welcome to visiting Foreign Minister Joseph Potolot of the Central African Republic. Mr. Potolot was in Taiwan for the start of a six day visit on Wednesday.
The tall Mr. Potolot, who rose head and shoulders above the party, was accompanied by his wife, and ambassador Agloire Bomba.
Full military honours were accorded to the Foreign Minister and his wife. They stood to attention on the red carpet alongside Shen Chug-huan and his wife. Mr. Potolot's National flag greeted him during the troop inspection.
Later, at the memorial to war heroes, the visiting Foreign Minister lay a commemorative wreath.
Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's immediate deputy, Chia-Kan Yen, greeted the African Foreign Minister and his ambassador at a later meeting. Mr. potolot was scheduled to have a series of meetings with ministers to discuss problems of mutual interest to the Central African Republic and Taiwan.
