Background: A big military parade was held in Vienna, Austria, May 14 as part of the ceremonies marking the 15th anniversary of Austria's liberation by the Allies at the end of World War Two. The 5th anniversary of the Austrian Peace Treaty following the war was also being celebrated.
Soon after a commemorative session of Parliament, the parade began in one of the city's main streets. Tanks, artillery and ski troops were among the units filing past the saluting base, where President Schaerf took the salute as Austrian military aircraft flew overhead.
