Background: Two of the stars of Wimbledon, the Rumanian Ile Nastase and the young American Jimmy Connors, had an easy win in the first round of the men's doubles on Thursday (26 June).
They beat the Mexican pair Marcelo Lara and Joaquin Loyo-Mayo 6-4, 9-7, 6-2.
The early sets saw some minor antics by Nastase, who has built up a reputation as an eccentric tennis wizard and one of the big crowd attractions at Wimbledon.
He did not appear ruffled by his surprise defeat earlier, when he lost his chance of talking the Wimbledon single's title at the hands of the Texan Sherwood Stewart.
Connors played a solid, reliable game and the two were in control throughout.
