TRANSCRIPT: HEATH (SEQ. 2): "In real terms, that is in terms of real buying power, average British earnings increased by less than 40 percent, between 1958 and 1969. In the Community countries those earnings went up by over 75 percent, less than 40 percent here, more than 75 percent in the community. That is the measure of their success, which they themselves ascribe to the creation of the community and their membership of it. Nearly twice as much in buying power, that is the measure of opportunity which is open to us.
QUESTION: Madam Chairman, Mr Prime Minister following Mr Maudling's comments on BBC Radio last night can we have the Prime Minister's assurance that he will allow the M.P.'s the freedom of choice when they vote on the Common Market. Or is the going to throw aside the Democratic principles for which the Conservative Party has always stood and twist their arms and impose a free line whip?
HEATH (SEQ. 4): I have to confess that as Mr Maulding was no for two and a half hours I didn't hear everything he said last night (laughter). The Government has reached it's own decision, it has stated it most clearly. I think everybody agrees it could not be more clearly stated. In these circumstances it is fully entitled over such a major issue to ask for the full support of the Party in Parliament. (applause).
