Background: Danish shipyard owner A.P.Moller collects ships as others collect stamps. He owns 87 vessels - 1.6 million tons - and five shipyards....the biggest private 'collection'.
His fifth yard was opened at Odense, Denmark, Nov.23. Among the personalities attending the opening ceremony was Danish Premier Mr.H.C.Hansen.
With a capacity for vessels of up to 100,000 tons the shipyard will provide employment for 4,000 people. And a town is being built to accommodate them. Cost of the yard was 80 million Danish kroner (about GBP4 million.)
The first ship to be built, of 45,000 tons, will be for Mr.Moller's 'collection'. For this Danish shipping magnate, the opening of this fifth yard was a great accomplishment - he is a 'self-made' man....he was from a poor family and inherited no fortune from his father.
