Background: INTRODUCTION: The French Minister of Foreign Trade, Monsieur Andre Rossi has been visiting Syria this week. He spent three days in Damascus and during his stay had a meeting with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.
SYNOPSIS: The two men met at the Presidential Palace. the purpose of Monsieur Rossi's visit was to formalise trade and economic agreements between France and Syria and Monsieur Rossi's Syrian counterpart, Mohammad Imadi, was also present at the discussions with President Assad. The establishment of a joint company for the assembly of French Peugeot motor vehicles in Syria is one of the projects in the agreement.
Monsieur Rossi and Mr. Imadi later moved on to the headquarters of the Central Bank of Syria for the signing of the agreement. It also covers the production and transportation of electricity, telecommunications, and plans for the reclamation of land in the Euphrates basin. Other areas of cooperation include the chemical and petro-chemical industries, agriculture, the construction of Tishrin University, tourism and mineral resources.
