Background: President Giovanni Gronchi of Italy unveiled Dec 11 in Rome a 42-metra high obelisk to Marconi, the Italian inventor of radio.
At the ceremony were the sculptor, white-haired Arturo Dazzi who used marble for the obelisk from the Carrara region of Italy where Moors selected his marble for the 'Reclining Woman' statue at the new UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
On the sides of the obelisk are scenes depicting the inventor's life and work.
