Background: November 11th, 1918. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. An armistice was signed in Paris on that day, and it marked an end of the "war to end all wars." Of course it didn't.

Since World War One, over 300 million men have served in the armed forces of the United States in peacetime, and through three more conflicts.

Since the Revolutionary War, 44 million men have served in the uniforms of this country. One in every seven Americans is a veteran, and today, Veterans Day, is set aside to honor these former servicemen. Veterans Day will be marked by parades throughout the country. Featured in the events on Veterans Day will be the Honor Guard of the United States Air Force who represent the Air Force at all ceremonies throughout Washington, D.C.

In addition to ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, the Washington Monument, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and other locations, the Honor Guard renders military honours for deceased veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.

The precision of the drill team reflects the singleness of purpose of our armed forces. In this spirit, Veterans Day commemorates all U. S. servicemen, the 44 million who have served in war and peace.
