Background: The astronauts who are to fly the fourteen-day GT-7 mission and their back-up crew met with officials of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Thursday (2 December) for a final mission review. At this meeting, held before each shot, the astronauts and the mission controllers go over the entire mission.

The prime crew for GT-7 consists of Command Pilot Frank Borman and Pilot James Lovell. Borman is a Major in the U.S. Air Force; Lovell is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. The back-up crew consists of Command Pilot Edward White and Pilot Michael Collins. Both White and Collins are Air Force Majors. Edward White is the only one of the four who has flown in space previously and will be remembered as the first American to venture outside his capsule and "walk" in space.
