Background: Continuing his visit to Madagascar, President de Gaulle laid a wreath on the monument to the fallen in the capital Tananarive, visited a refugee camp and later watched a folk dancing display in the city stadium.
In a speech to 30,000 who packed into the stadium, he called on them as members of the French Community to show the world an example of how people from different countries in various parts of the world, can work together peacefully.
On July 7th. President de Gaulle had presided over the fourth meeting of the French Community by Prime Ministers from 12 French Community Territories in addition to French Prime Minister Debre and the Foreign Minister, M. Couve de Mourville.
President de Gaulle arrived back in Paris from his 15,000 mile tour of French Community territories in East Africa and the Indian Ocean today.
