A five-year programme for the project, 'Dragon', was approved recently by the Nuclear Energy Agency of OEEC after nearly a year's negotiations.
The European nations joining Britain in this project are France, West Germany, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg (all members of Euratom), Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and Austria.
The project, the third joint scheme for nuclear developments by OEEC countries, is expected to cost GBP 13,600,000, of which Britain will contribute GBP 8 million. On the conclusion of the project Britain will retain ownership of the reactor and the installation in England.
Before work starts, sometime in the summer, 50 scientists will meet to discuss design of the plant.
