Background: In Phnom Penh, a chinese funeral procession symbolises the impending fate of two chinese businessmen. A Military Court has sentenced them to death by faring squad for monetary offences.

Last week the court found the two men guilty of economic sabotage, ruling they had been reselling cars at inflated prices. Beth are Khmer-born.

One is 30-year-old Ng Long, the other Mok Fam Chhieng. Mok owns a shop, now closed, in the Khmer capital's bustling Chinese quarter.

He and Ng, who owns a goldsmith's shop, are now awaiting execution in a military prison near Phnom Penh which has been cordoned off. They have no right of appeal to the verdict, although the Khmer head of state has the right to exercise clemency.

The trial was the first for economic sabotage and speculation since warfare broke out 18 months ago in Cambodia, as the country was known then, bringing sharp inflation.

The families of the two men, said to be frightened and distressed, have remained indoors since the verdict was announce.
