Background: A bomb exploded during the night at the premises of the Pezoporikos Football Club on May 8th. There was little damage beyond broken windows and superficial shrapnel marks on the doors, and the cost of repairs will be about GBP50.

The club, which is right-wing in political inclination, had the initials 'AKEL' scribbled on the walls, which stand for the out-lawed leftist organisation of Cyprus, the Progressive Party of the Working People. It is generally believed that it was this party that placed the bomb in the club.

The odd point about this incident was that the party initials, although representing Greek word, were printed in English, or Roman, block capitals.

This bomb attack comes at the beginning of a renewed attack against British Serviceman on the island. Grivas, the leader of the BOKA----Union with Greece organisation----terrorists, warned the security forces that if the torture of Cypriots, being interrogated about terrorists activities, did not stop he would instruct his followers to take reprisals. As a result of this two British Military policemen were shot dead during the week ending 10th May and another one was wounded on Sunday 11th May.

At present the Governor of Cyprus, Sir Hugh Foot is in London having talks with the Prime Minister, Mr. MacMillan, on the Cyprus problem.
