Background: At least 3 people were killed and many injured July 28 when two packed trains - returning from the Cuban July 26th celebrations in Sierra Maestra - were in collision near Camaguey.
The engine of the second train, crashing into the last car of the train in front - completely demolished it and overturned the carriage next to it.
Police and army rescue workers worked with blow-torches to free trapped passengers from the wreckage. Many wounded were rushed by stretcher to a waiting helicopter and thence to hospital.
