Background: One hundred thousand servicemen and their wives were today voting in EEC Referendum at Force Voting Units set up throughout Germany, Belgium and Holland.
At 113 polling stations servicemen, from the age of 18, and their wives they are of age, are casting their votes. Those servicemen who are temporarily in Northern Ireland, Cyprus or Canada have been catered for they are voting under special service arrangements.
The Forces voting Units are usually a collection of neighbouring units put together for geographical and administrative convenience. They o??? in exactly the same way as a polling station in England during a General Election. Voting is secret.
Ballot boxes will be flown to United Kingdom and the votes will be counted as part of the Greater London Area vote. It will not be possible today which way the forces overseas voted.
