Background: The Rand Easter Show in Johannesburg, the most important annual trade fair in South Africa, began on Tuesday. The theme of the show is "Riding High" -- design dot indicate the state the Republic economy.
One of the highlights for the crowd is the new cable way which offers the visitors a spectacular view of the international pavilions.
Among the international pavilions are those sponsored by Britain, France, West Germany, Portugal, Southern Rhodesia, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Holland, Belgium and Italy. The most important item on display in most of the pavilions is industrial and agricultural machinery.
A new art gallery showing traditional South African art has also been built.
Before the show finishes at the end of the month, it is estimated that nearly a million people, including hundreds of overseas businessman will have passed through the turnstiles.
