Background: The Primate of All England, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Michael Ramsey, yesterday (Saturday) addressed the closing session of the Anglican Synod in Cape Town, calling for increased multi-racial fellowship in the Church. He was speaking to 200 delegates from all Africa on the second day of his 20-day visit to South Africa.

Dr. Ramsey's tour promises to be a controversial one, as it is taking place against a background of Church involvement in support of African guerrilla movements and the proposed resumption of British arms sales to South African. The Archbishop has already publicly opposed the World Council of Churches proposed aid to guerrillas, and has made it quite clear that he is against the resumption of the arms sales.
