COMMENTATOR: "The Sabres opened the scoring in the first period. Larry Hillman led the charge, dropped the puck to Rick Martin who in turn dropped it for Rene Robert. Robert took it in on Penguin goalie Jim Rutherford. It was Robert's 36th goal of the season and made it one to nothing Buffalo. Moments later the Sabre's Rick Martin received a high stick in the face. Stunned momentarily, Martin then charged Pittsburgh's Bryan Watson and the fight was on. Martin later required stitches to close a cut over his left eye. Oddly enough it was Martin's team mate Rene Robert who received a game misconduct penalty for becoming the third man in the fight. In the second period, Buffalo's Craig Ramsey beat Rutherford on the glove hand side. It was Ramsey's eighth goal of the year and made it two nothing Buffalo. Almost before the fans could sit down, newly acquired Norm Griton picked up a loose puck and scored on the short side to make it three nothing. Griton was recently acquired from Atlanta. Pittsburgh's Greg Polus (phonetic spelling) ruined Sabre goalle Roger Crozier's shut out bid with a slap shot in the second period. Buffalo's final goal in the third period made it four to one and the victory moved the Sabres three full points ahead of Detroit in the NHL ???st playoff."
