Background: INTRODUCTION: An Iraqi delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr.Taha Yassin Ramadhan, has been holding top level discussions with Polish officials in Warsaw. The Polish government is anxious to see an early resumption of oil supplies from Iraq. The supplies are vital to the weakened Polish economy and have been interrupted by the continuing war between Iran and Iraq.

SYNOPSIS: The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister was greeted on his arrival by the President of the Polish Council of State, Professor Henryk Jablonski.

Since the start of the war with Iran, Iraq has been seeking to buy arms both for immediate delivery and on a long-term basis.

In the past, Poland has sent tanks and ammunition to Iraq by way of Saudi Arabia.Sources at the conference say the continuation of this agreement was discussed when the delegation met the First Secretary of the Polish Communist Party, Stanislaw Kania. The special meeting also examined the Iraqi peace initiatives to end the conflict with Iran.

At the end of the three-day talks, the Iraqi Foreign Trade Minister, Hassan Ali and the Polish Trade Minister, Ryszard Karski, signed an agreement which will continue the economic co-operation between the two countries.
