Background: Lieutenant-General Theophilus Y. Danjuma, the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, is in England for a six-day visit.
SYNOPSIS: He was given a military welcome in front of the Ministry of Defence in London, on Monday (6 December). The Nigerian guest as greeted by General Sir Roland Gibbs, the Chief of the General Staff of the British Army and received by a guard of honour. Lieutenant-General Danjuma was promoted, from Brigadier, and appointed to his present position a year ago.
The guard of honour was provided by the First Battalion Coldstream Guards, with the Regimental Band of the Scots Guards, under the command of Major G.C. Forrester-Walker.
There's along tradition of friendly contacts between Britain and Nigeria and their armed forces. The Nigerian Army is the biggest and one of the most effective in black Africa.
Later in the day Lieutenant-General Danjuma ad talks with Dr. John Gilbert, M.P., Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence. General Gibbs and other Ministry officials were also present. He will stay in Britain until Friday (10 December).
