SYNOPSIS: Mr. Bani-Sadr landed in France at the Evreux Air Force base in Normandy, and was driven to the flat of two of his daughters in the Paris suburb of Cachan. He has signed an undertaking not to engage in politics while is in France.
On his arrival in France, Mr. Bani-Sadr said he had been in Teheran since he was dismissed by Ayatollah Khomenei, and that he was able to move about the city under the protection of his supporters.
The reason he had left Iran was to encourage the resistance of the Iranian people. He told reporters in paris later that recent event showed that the people of Iran were determined to continue along the path of revolution. He would stay in France, he said, "until the day when the Iranian people open the way to democracy and have a political life worthy of the name."
