Background: In Baghdad, Iraq, representatives of the oil-producing Arab states and Venezuela met Sept 13 to discuss ways in which they could jointly ensure against possible economic difficulties caused by actions taken by foreign oil companies.

One of the conference's decisions was to set up a committee to study the fixing of crude oil prices in world markets.

Iraq proposed a permanent organisation of the oil exporting states. Meanwhile, another conference will probably soon be resumed in Baghdad - in which the big, London-based Iraq Petroleum Company will discuss with Iraq revision of its 1952 oil agreement, involving possible relinquishment of a large concession area.
