Background: A wealthy Californian eye physician...Dr. Victor Ohta, his wife, two sons, and a secretary were found dead in the swimming pool of the doctor's blazing home on a Santa Cruz hillside late on Monday night (19 October). The victims had all been shot in the head before being dumped in the swimming pool. A wide search of the area is being made, but police have so far found no weapon, suspect, or motive to explain the crime.
The bodies were discovered when firemen, who had rushed to the scene of the blaze, went to the swimming pool to use it as a water supply. Santa Cruz fire officer Ted Pound described the discovery to a reporter.
