Background: The West Berlin police said yesterday that the East Germans had discovered a tunnel 120 metres long running under the Berlin Wall. They immediately began to excavate the road in the Bernauer strasse on the East Berlin side of the Wall.

This film was shot over the Berlin Wall from a vantage point in West Berlin. Cameraman Gunter Lahmann rushed to the area in the late afternoon with the light fading to get this record of the excavation.
