Background: A group of Israeli women handed a petition to United Nations Middle East peace envoy Gunnar Jarring in Jerusalem today (Tuesday). The women presented their peace petition shortly after Dr. Jarring had arrived in Israel from his Nicosia headquarters for talks with the Government.
The women said they represented several organisations with a total membership of 600,000. The petition appealed to Dr. Jarring to do his utmost to bring peace between Israel and Arab states.
Dr. Jarring has been given just such a mission by the United Nations. He has been trying to bring about peace contracts between he two factions since the June war last year.
The seven women assembled outside the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, where Dr. Jarring is staying. At first they were refused permission to enter the hotel and present the petition, but later Dr. Jarring accepted it as he was leaving for an unknown destinations.
