    Background: QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Quezon City on december 10, International Human Rights Day. They were joined by groups of students and workers protesting the death of a striking worker, Letitia Celestino, who was killed on November 28 while picketing outside the city's Victoria Food Company. The demonstrators marched through the city to Camp Aguinaldo, the headquarters of the armed forces, to protest at the abuse of human rights by the military. This was despite the city authorities' request that the march should not go ahead. They were addressed by parliamentary member Homobono Adaza who urged them to fight for the protection of their human rights.
