"After losing at home to Crystal Palace in the Cup last week, Leeds looked odds on to beat struggling Norwich. But after only ten minutes, a poor throw-in put Leeds in trouble. They were only moving at half pace and obviously lacked bite and finishing power up front. But Norwich's Boyer really gave the Leeds defence a fright. Then. McKenzie sneaked through at the other end just before half time and only at the last second, Stringer booted the hall off his toe. The second half started with a flurry of attacks .. Leeds tried bringing on Joe Jordan in place of Lorimer to have the extra thrust. But with Leeds attacking, Keeland made this extraordinary reflex save from McKenzie. The Norwich corner should have produced a goal but Boyer's header bounced past the post. And the Leeds corner at the other end saw the Norwich defence packing the penalty area to scramble the ball clear. Then a costly mistake by Harvey in the Leeds goal let in McGuire and Norwich were two up. A deflection helped the ball pass Harvey but the Norwich players were too busy celebrating to notice. Then McKenzie watched in agony as (indistinct). To make matters worse the ball chipped from the edge of the box and beat Boyer.

He recovered quickly and set up the third goal for MacDougall. Leeds were down and out and Norwich were three nil up. And that superbly headed goal crowned a great performance by Norwich and cost Leeds two precious championship points."

Background: Norwich the only club to have won at Liverpool this season in the League, shocked Leeds with two goals by Ted MacDougall bringing his season's total to 23, and another by Mike McGuire for a well-deserved 3-0 win.

After losing at home to Crystal Palace in the Cup last week, Leeds looked odds-on to beat struggling Norwich, at Leeds on Saturday (31 January).

But after only ten minutes, a poor throw-in put Leeds in trouble. They were only moving at half pace and obviously lacked bite and finishing power up front.

And Norwich's Boyer really gave the Leeds defence a fright. Icy winds had caused postponement of nine League matches on Saturday in both English and Scottish football. Pitches were hard and unplayable, but this did not seem to be the case at Leeds.

The three-nil win by Norwich did not do too well for them as they still remained fifteenth in the first division tables with 25 points while Leeds ended the day in fourth position with 35 points.

SYNOPSIS: Icy winds caused the postponement of nine League matches on Saturday in both English and Scottish football. Pitches were iron hard and unplayable. However, one of the matches played was between Leeds and Norwich at Leeds.
