Background: With voting in he Indian General election due to begin on Monday 29th., Indian Prime Minister Mrs. India Gandhi visited her own constituency on Friday in the small, dusty town of Rae Bareli and district, in Uttar pradesh state.
She addressed several meetings in the area, and in Rae Bareli proper she spoke to a 500-strong gathering of local women. Later she continued her campaign in an open car.
Mrs. Gandhi is thought to have a safe seat at Rae Bareli, where she had big majority in 1967. Her main opponent is Mr. Raj Narain of a four-party front called the Democratic Alliance. Their slogan, like many opposition groups nationally, is simply "Oust Indira".
