Background: In a setting of the classic Australian bushland, thirty-eight miles from Melbourne is the Sir Colin MacKenzie Animal Sanctuary -- one of Victoria's showplaces of Australian fauna. There are more than four hundred native birds and animals here -- animals like "Alice" the wombat -- a tame but shy favourite with young visitors. Last year Alice -- or to give her formal name, Vombatus Ursinus -- came under the appreciative eyes of the one hundred and-thirty five thousand people who travel Healesville to visit the sanctuary. Alice as we said, is somewhat shy, and with the attention that's constantly heaped on her by playful admirers, she sometimes tires an decides to withdraw from public view into the confines of a hollow log.

The main attraction at the sanctuary is inside this building -- the platypussary it might be called. The exhibit is open every day between three and four o'clock, when the platypus goes on show.
