Luther King speaking to the press.
KING: "It fills me with humility and gratitude to know that I have been chosen as a recipient of this foremost of earthly honours. I do not consider this merely an honour to me personally, but a tribute to the discipline wise restraint and majestic courage of the millions of gallant negroes and white persons of goodwill who have followed a non violent course in seeking to establish a reign of justice and a rule of love across this nation of ours. This award does bring with it international dimensions to the struggle, and causes us to see that there are international implications, and that the rolling tide of world opinion is squarely on the side of the struggle for justice and freedom here in our country. our determination to solve this problem".
