Background: In Cairo, Oct 25, three men were sentenced to death for spying, by the State Supreme Security Court. Eight other U.A.R.citizens - one a woman - were given terms ranging from six months to life imprisonment on the same charge. The court decided that Foaid Moharram, Mohammed Mustafa Rizk and Mohammed Samy Nafeh were guilty of spying against their country for Israel.
As is normal in the U.A.R. courts the death sentence had to be confirmed by the Mofti - or religious leader - of the country before it was passed on the prisoners.
On the same day six foreigners were gabled for spying for Israel. Their sentences ranged from seven to 15 years with hard labour. Two of the men, both Greeks, were said to have been members of "The International Anti-Communist Organization" and are said to have supplied reports on Soviet activities in Egypt.
