Background: Australian woman squash player, Heather McKay, has won her 15th consecutive British Women's Open Squash Championship.

Mrs. McKay beat her fellow Australian, Sue Newman, by 9-2; 9-4; 9-2; in the final of the titles at Wembley in London on Thursday night (4 March).

Mrs. McKay has not been beaten in a competitive game for 14 years, but she had to play at her best to beat Miss Newman, who is the current Australian amateur champion.

Both players took some time to settle down, but Mrs. McKay went to a 6-0 lead in the first game before Miss Newman scored a point.

Miss Newman was leading by 3-0 in the second game when she broke her racket against a wall. Mrs. McKay then took the next eight points and finally won the game 0-4.

In the final game, Mrs. McKay's experience and condition enabled her to get on top of her opponent and she won, 9-2.

Mrs. McKay has lost only one game in the past 15 times she has played in the British Open Championship.

SYNOPSIS: The second game proved to be a different story with Miss Newman giving Mrs. McKay one of her hardest matches for some time. Miss Newman had taken a 3-0 lead in the game when she broke her racket against one of the walls. After the delay, Mrs. McKay regained control of the match and won eight points in a row, before taking the second game 9-4.

However, Miss Newman was determined not to let Mrs. McKay win her 15th British title easily. She continued to trouble Mrs. McKay throughout the third game and only Mrs. McKay's greater experience kept her in command.

In the 15 times Mrs. McKay has played in the British Open she has only lost one game. She beat Miss Newman 9-2 in the third set to win the British Open title for the 15th time. Mrs. McKay was then presented with a trophy for the title she has dominated for so long. Her 15 consecutive victories have set record that will be difficult to better in the future.
