Background: U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk held a news conference on Friday (27 March). He was asked about Senator William Fulbright's speech in the Senate Wednesday in which the Senator sharply criticized much of U.S. Foreign policy.
Mr. Rusk noted that the Senator had made a "thoughtful statement" and had made it clear that he spoke only for himself. He commented specifically on only one point that Senator Fulbright had made. The Senator had said that the Castro government in Cuba represented no serious threat to the United States.
Mr. Rusk noted that in fact the Castro government is a threat, and recalled the attempt of Cuban terrorists to overthrow the government of Venezuela.
