Background: South Vietnamese forces pushing northward into "Parrot Beak" area of Cambodia have captured a North Vietnamese base camp and a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The North Vietnamese had apparently been using the area for training troops for warfare in South Vietnam.

The camp is about five miles (eight kms) from the border with South Vietnam and it was discovered by the South Vietnamese Army's 25th division. The division, which has American advisers, was one of the first to cross into Cambodia. According to reports the camp is believed to have been an important North Vietnamese and Viet Cong tactical training and support area capable of handling and supplying two or three battalions.

Underground caches of many types of ammunition were found as well as hundreds of weapons. Including weapons taken during fighting, the South Vietnamese unit has captured 99 big mortar-type guns and 779 small arms. They also captured 50 tons of rice and about half a ton of medicine. The North Vietnamese and Viet Cong commanders of the camp were killed in the South Vietnamese attack.
