Background: Senegal's President Leopold Senghor arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday (11 November) on a five-day state visit aimed at improving relations between Senegal and Sudan.
Sudanese President Jaafar El Nimeiry greeted the Senegalese leader at the airport, and the two Heads of State later held talks on bilateral relations, African affairs and the Angola situation.
At a dinner at the People's Palace on the same day, President Nimeiry awarded President Senghor with the Medal of Honour for his support for freedom in Africa and Arab-African solidarity.
President Senghor, who has just toured the Middle East, said Sudan is a miniature African world in which the sons of the north and south co-exist.
After Khartoum, President Senghor will visit Juba, the capital of Sudan's southern region.
