    THE SYDNEY WAS ACCOMPANIED BY TWO DESTROYERS DURING HER 12-DAY SEA VOYAGE.

    THE SYDNEY WAS A SCENE OF FEVERISH ACTIVITY AS THE TROOPS, TRUCKS, JEEPS AND ARTILLERY - 105 ITALIAN HOWITZERS-WERE BEING LOWERED OVER THE SIDE FOR SHIPMENT TO THE SHORE.THE TROOPS 'TWO SIOUX HELICOPTERS FLEW OFF FROM THE FLIGHT DECK UNDER THEIR OWN STEAM WHILE THE TWO LIGHT OBSERVATION PLANES WERE AIRLIFTED BY A GIANT AMERICAN H-37 HELICOPTER.THE MASSIVE HELICOPTER LIFTED THE SPOTTER PLANES AS IT WERE TOYS.

    THE TROOPS, IN BATTLE DRESS AND WEARING CAMOUFLAGED HELMETS, WERE FERRIED ASHORE IN WAVES OF LANDING CRAFT UNDER A CLOUDLESS SKY AND WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING SWELTERING 100 DEGREES.

    THE REINFORCEMENTS WENT DIRECTLY TO BIEN HOA AIRBASE ABOUT 50 MILES AWAY, TO JOIN THE AUSTRALIAN BATTALION THERE.THEY WILL SERVE WITH THE AMERICAN 173RD AIRBORNE DIVISION IN VIETNAM.THEIR MAIN TASK BEING THE DEFENCE OF THE ALL-IMPORTANT BIEN HOA AIRBASE.IN ADDITION, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY OUT JOINT 'SEARCH AND DESTROY' OPERATIONS AGAINST THE COMMUNIST VIETCONG.
