    Background: BEIRUT, LEBANON

Two car bombs exploded in Beirut on Tuesday (23 February) killing at least four people. A group calling itself the Organisation for the Liberation of Lebanon, immediately claimed responsibility. One of the bombs exploded in the middle of a main road running along the seafront in predominantly Moslem West Beirut. The second exploded in the same area a few minutes later. The blast set fire to some small shops in the area and a huge pall of grey smoke hung over the area.
