    Background: SIXTY MEN FROM THE 10TH BATTALION OF THE BRITISH PARACHUTE REGIMENT TOOK PART IN A MASS DROP OVER ARNHEM IN HOLLAND TODAY (TUESDAY). THE DEMONSTRATION WAS HELD TO COMMEMORATE THE AIR-LIFT OF THE BRITISH AIR-BORNE FORCES THAT INVADED THE AREA ON SEPTEMBER 18, 1944, IN WHAT BECAME ONE OF THE FIERCEST ENGAGEMENTS UNDERTAKEN BY BRITISH TROOPS IN WORLD WAR TWO.

    WHEN THE PARATROOPS HIT THE GROUND THEY WERE ASSEMBLED BY THEIR COMMANDING OFFICER, LIEUTENANT-COLONEL E.G. LEE, AND MARCHED TO ARNHEM WAR CEMETERY TO LAY WREATHS ON THE GRAVES OF THE 1,800 MEN WHO WERE KILLED DURING THE BATTLE. THE MEN HAD FLOWN TO THE DROPPING ZONE IN BEVERLY AIRCRAFT FROM THEIR BASE IN NORTHOLT, ENGLAND.

    ALSO PRESENT AT THE COMMEMORATION CEREMONY WAS GROUP CAPTAIN J.R.W.BLYTH OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE. NOW DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT THE AIR MINISTRY IN LONDON, GROUP CAPTAIN BLYTH IS A VETERAN OF 1,188 PARACHUTE DESCENTS. HE LAID A WREATH ON BEHALF OF NO.38 GROUP, RAF TRANSPORT COMMAND, THE UNIT THAT PROVIDED ALL THE AIRCRAFT FOR THE WARTIME OPERATION.
