Background: Tottenham Hotspurs beat a sub-standard Everton side at Goodison Park, Liverpool, on Saturday (26 February) in the Fifth round of the Football Association (F.A.) Cup. Everton, playing on their home ground, didn't lack enthusiasm but failed to produce the skills to contain a confident Spurs eleven, or beat the Spurs goalkeeper Jennings who was in superb form.

Tottenham Hotspurs...who won 2-nil, with shots by Gilzean and Peters...now move on into the Sixth round where they'll play the highly-favoured Leeds United side.

SYNOPSIS: A shot by Kendall, diverted for an Everton corner.

Not long after, Everton missed an opportunity when a penalty was headed straight into the arms of keeper Jennings.

Spurs kept up the pressure, and after some heady play by Gilzean gaps in the defence loomed ahead. The movement was completed by Perryman whose shot just missed the goal.

Johnston for Everton fought back and, pouncing on a rebound, gave Jennings an anxious moment.

Everton didn't give up hope in the second half, but Spurs' move as this one...which resulted in a goal by Peters...had them scrambling. With their two-nil win Spurs move into the competition's Sixth Round where they'll play Leeds United.
