Background: Disease has not been slow in following disaster in the flood ravaged areas of the Philippines. Three weeks of flooding, mainly on Luzon island, led President Marcos to say it was the worst calamity in the history of his nation. The National Disaster Co-ordination Centre has put the death toll at nearly 430. Fuel, food and medical supplies are scarce in many ares despite a massive relief operation. And the Department of Health has started inoculation programmes following isolated outbreaks of cholera and other diseases. As the people turn up at medical centres for inoculation, they are being provided with food.
