Background: Never at a loss to update the traditional sport of kite-flying, Hong Kong manufacturers have just introduced new-style kite that celebrates the American detente with the Chinese People's Republic. In place of the traditional bamboo and lacquered paper, the new design features a model Boeing 707 jetliner in inflatable plastic. Between the wings are strung the symbolic hands of friendship, marked with Chinese and American insignia.

The new style, called the Friendship Kits, has been rushed into production at a hong kong factory. Another design, celebrating Sino-British friendship, is also promised by the manufacturers.
