REPORTER: "Captain Culver, you've just been found guilty on both charges. Could you tell us how you feel at this moment?"



CAPTAIN CULVER: "I feel this court had very little option about what they did. I think they were in a situation where the instructions the judge gave me....they virtually had to find me guilty. I was hoping that they would use their common sense to ignore those instructions, but they didn't. It's not unexpected."



REPORTER: "Are you saying you haven't had a fair trial?"



CAPTAIN CULVER: "I'm saying that the military judge refused our request regarding the constitutional issues. He never put the constitutional issues before the court members, and without them there wasn't much of a trial at all."

Background: At a United States Army base in Britain, an officer stationed there has been found guilty by a military tribunal of taking part in an anti-Vietnam demonstration in London, and of soliciting other officers to take part. It is the first case of its kind in Britain. Sentence on the officer, Captain Thomas Culver, will be passed tomorrow (July 14).
