The game was over in two sets with Miss Durr winning 6-4, 6-2. The French girl took first prize money of 4,000 dollars while Miss Goolagong received 2,000 dollars as runner-up.
SYNOPSIS: Australian Evonne Goolagong faced French-born Francoise Durr in the final of the Canadian Open Tennis Championship played in Toronto on Monday. Miss Durr hadn't beaten the young Australian in nearly a year. She lost to her in Australia last December and again in Paris in May.
Miss Durr took advantage of many backhand errors by the Australian and quickly took the first set 6-4.
The final game went to deuce six times before Miss Durr took the title with a backhand winner after losing two other match points to Miss Goolagong. The French girl won the second sat 6-2. After the game Miss Durr said she was extremely surprised at her victory. She earned first prize money of 4,000 dollars. Miss Goolagong won 2,000 dollars as runner-up.
